Isla Pulo

Isla Pulo is a sitio at Brgy. Tanza in Navotas City. It's a home for 200 families who relies on fishing, charcoal and collection plastic garbage from the sea to make ends meet. |Ulingan sa Isla Pulo| I also met a great number of young kids who became my instant models but more importantly, as my new friends. This photowalk activity was with the Flickr Group Shutter XP and hopefully by the time we go back there, we've got somethings for the kids as well as for the adults. |Angelica| (I am going to post a new album exclusively for the little angels of Isla Pulo) |UNCARED| © COPYRIGHT NOTICE The work contained in my gallery is copyrighted Dennis A. Anton, Angelica, Raelyn, Guiller...just a few names i could remember from the many kids I've met at Isla Pulo in Brgy. Tanza Navotas City. While though I have forgotten most of the other kids'names their faces are etched in my heart. |Duyan| Where they live is far from ideal, but I can sense that these kids were happy. They are quite playful and full of energy. The talk a lot and very accommodating. But many of these children at a young age are already working, many to collect plastic garbage driven by current to their shores. |Stare| This coming Christmas season, a Flickr Group called Shutter XP hopes to give joy and put some precious smiles on these children s faces by giving them gifts like school supplies and make their simple wishes come true. |PASKO sa Pulo| Join us. © COPYRIGHT NOTICE The work contained in my gallery is copyrighted Dennis A. Artex Compound: Waterworld Village

Artex Compound is located in the City of Malabon, and have been submerged under waist-high waters since 2004. This waterworld village used to be a row housing compound for factory workers of Artex Textiles which has now closed. They don't have cars but surely they have boats. These were the people of Artex Compound. Having a boat is a must, for it is the only way to navigate the compound and its alleys. |Waterworld Village| For visitors, it is also the only way to roam around Artex. In a little sad way, the water became an instrument for people to have some livelihood but though it provides them some help, they still wish that someday the water will cease and that they can live a normal life again. |Boatman| Interestingly, the spirit of the tenants is still very high, they all still look forward to the coming Christmas season, house were decorated with lights and lanterns. The people even invited us to come and celebrate with them on the 24th for their Christmas Party. Also thanks to Jobar for a...

It was a day to remember. I praise God for allowing me to take part of such a selfless activity. It was only my second time to come at Isla Pulo, and during my first visit I met a lot of nice people, happy and joyful kids but I know that everything can be a lot better. I and everyone who was with me on that visit knew that we had to do something to make them feel better. |Pasko sa Pulo| We organized an outreach activity to help the people of Isla Pulo. It was used to be just amongst the SXP group until Heaven sent Holcim Philippines along with Petron/McDonalds/YP to help us with the endeavor. The rest was history. For this coming holiday season there are 200-less sad families celebrating Christmas, with ample foods on their table. Happy kids that maybe for the first time in their life, had gifts for Christmas. © COPYRIGHT NOTICE The work contained in my gallery is copyrighted Dennis A. Bautista. All rights reserved. Finally, I was able to attend Parc's workshop after months of inclination to attend and learn how he does his post-processing work. It was information-overload, but the time and money spent was well worth it. Last night I tried working on some photos but I was so tired, so I ended up as being unhappy with what I produced. But this morning, being rested and all, I was able to do one photo. Any comments and critiques are most welcome. Be kind! :) |Ning| |Ning II| Anyhow, Thanks to Parc Cruz for the great workshop, thanks to Mike Sabarre for the invite. This photo was taken at an abandoned dump site in Navotas City. And although this dump site has long been abandoned by the city government, many families were still living around and in the area, trying to scavenge whatever things they could, for them to survive. |No Smile| © COPYRIGHT NOTICE The work contained in my gallery is copyrighted Dennis A.
